Speckled Butterfly

A beautiful knitted shawl was featured on Ravelry recently, and I was completely enchanted with it.  I wasn't going to actually MAKE it, though, until I made the mistake of showing it to a couple of friends.

Long story short, two of us are doing a KAL (knit-along, for those of you who don't know).  So I bought the pattern--fairly expensive as patterns go, but worth every penny.  The row-by-row directions are precise and there are lots of pictures.

The only thing I haven't seen mentioned is a reminder to pick up your wraps when you do a standard wrap and turn.  Luckily, I've done a lot of short rows before, so wraps & turns and picking up the wraps are pretty much second nature by now.

Lots of people are praising German short rows and other techniques, but I'm happy with how mine is turning out.  This is only the beginning!

Finally Finished: The Rib-It! Sampler Throw

I finally finished putting together all these Rib-It blocks a few weeks ago.

You may notice there is one "outlier" on the bottom right.  I ran out of the ivory colored yarn, and I just looked at my stash and decided I cannot cram one more skein into one more bin.

So I used what I have and I don't care if it matches, by this time!  I am really getting lax in my old age.

My living room floor was dedicated to sewing the blocks together.  I kept them laid out, as I didn't want to get them out of order.

Needless to say, there were a lot of yarn-tails to weave in.

But I prevailed.  Yarn-tails are not the boss of me!

You can also buy Rib-It!  A Knit Sampler Throw, Parts 1 through 4, which include many more blocks that go together, in my Etsy shop--click here.  Or buy them on Ravelry--click here.

Be sure to join the free knit-along, the Rib It Blanket KAL, on Ravelry, so you can chat with other knitters and post photos of your blocks.  I would really enjoy seeing them.  So far, it has been a fairly quiet group, but if there is something you'd like to discuss, feel free to start a topic of conversation!

Free Pattern: Rib It! August Block of the Month

This highly textured, wavy rib calls for some interesting increase and decrease stitches.  If you've never done a M1R or M1L, there are lots of tutorials on YouTube.

As always, the finished size of this block as written is 8" square;  directions are included for adapting to other sizes.  Have fun!

Be sure to join the free knit-along, the Rib It Blanket KAL, on Ravelry, so you can chat with other knitters and post photos of your blocks.  I would really enjoy seeing them.
